The St. Joseph Public Library is partnering with local schools to bring author Mindy McGinnis to St. Joseph!

Mindy McGinnis is an Edgar Award-winning novelist who writes across multiple genres, including post-apocalyptic, historical, thriller, contemporary, mystery, and fantasy.

Central High School will be hosting two presentations that will be open to the public, where all are welcome to hear Ms. McGinnis' presentation. Following each presentation will be a time for book signing; she will have books available to purchase at the event. Please arrive to the school 15 minutes early to go through the visitor check-in process. 

At 10 a.m. she will discuss:

The Initial Insult and the Last Laugh

Mindy McGinnis discusses the inspiration for her duology The Initial Insult and The Last Laugh which draw heavily on the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe, while covering modern themes of class, bullying, and small town politics.

At 1 p.m. she will discuss:

Blood, Brains & Lobotomies

Author Mindy McGinnis shares the research behind her Edgar Award-Winning Gothic historical thriller, A Madness So Discreet. Learn about how doctors treated brain injuries in the 1890’s and the different aspects of care for the mentally ill – for better or for worse. Also included is a brief history of The Athens Lunatic Asylum, the setting for the novel.
