Program Description
Calling all aspiring teen authors and illustrators! To celebrate the Tales part of the Tails & Tales summer reading theme, we are offering Written and Illustrated By… a virtual teen writing group. We will meet four times throughout June and July. Participants in the program will write, illustrate and bind their own short story capped at 7,000 words. The first two meetings will be creative writing workshops focusing on writing and editing. On July 7th, participants will attend a virtual art class taught by Corrine Roberts. In this session we will learn to use basic shape construction and line drawing techniques to create characters and scenery. No prior drawing experience needed. Supplies required are simple pencil, paper and eraser. The final two sessions will be for final draft review and binding the stories.
Throughout the two months participants will submit drafts to the St. Joseph Public Library teen librarians for constructive feedback and problem solving. In the first meeting we will talk about brainstorming, outlining and beginning the writing process. Students can talk through ideas that they have and help each other flesh them out.
